Humility

I love that talk that Pres. Hinkley gave. We sometimes feel it is necessary to help others. But in order to help others we must first "Start with the Man in the Mirror" (MJ Man in the mirror) we must cleanse ourselves of these desires or sickness or the best way to put it "the Sickness of the Soul." When we drive out selfishness and self interests in our own lives then we will be healthy enough to help others with their's. But be careful, sometimes while trying to help others with their Sickness of the Soul we can in fact become sick again.

I am sometimes quite surprised by people's definition or interpretation of humility. On one hand you have some that are extreme in thinking that you have to be like a church mouse to be humble and if people walk all over you and you stay quiet then it means you are super humble. Then there is the others who proclaim humility by just being friendly with everyone. I can understand avoiding contention and turning the cheek, but I do not read anywhere in the scriptures to be stupid. There are times when you must stand up for what is right. Some may not see this as 'humble', but I can promise you when Christ was using His whip in the Temple he was doing so in all humility.

Humility

As I understand it, true humility is realizing how completely and utterly dependant we are on God, and not thinking that we can do it all ourselves. Not an easy task, since we all (myself included) have a tendency to rely on our own abilities and to resist asking for help. I think some of the events and challenges of the last days will definitely push us towards greater humility, since the need for divine intervention will be abundantly clear.
