I like one of the reasons they used to implement the new rule:

QUOTE
The old single car, single lap system was deemed boring by racing teams and media.

In addition to above it seems like there will be more opportunity during the laps as cars are eliminated.

F-1 Racing Reviews Consumer & Travel Family Culture

I like all the changes to F1 this year, and this pole qualifying system seems to be a lot more interesting. It seems as though there will be 15 cars on the track at the same time for the initial 15minute session, basically a race in itself. This seems to be rather a novel way of doing it, as the nature of F1 in the past has been to keep the cars as far apart as possible during qualifying.
Let's just hope it works, and then lets hope the cars are able to pass on most tracks as that has been the biggest bore of the past 5 or 6 seasons...

Alonso edges Schumacher to be first Spaniard to win Spanish GP

QUOTE
BARCELONA, Spain -- Fernando Alonso became the first Spaniard to win the Spanish Grand Prix, capturing Sunday's Formula One race in front of King Juan Carlos and more than 115,000 fans.

Michael Schumacher was second, followed by Giancarlo Fisichella and Felipe Massa.

This was a bit of sweet revenge after Fernando had finished 2nd to Schumacher in the last two races.
