Two mysterious women seek refuge in a run-down coastal resort. Clara meets lonely Noel, who provides shelter in his deserted guesthouse, Byzantium. Schoolgirl Eleanor befriends Frank and tells him their lethal secret. They were born 200 years ago and survive on human blood. As knowledge of their secret spreads, their past catches up on them with deathly consequence.

Another vampire story? Yes and unfortunately, despite the impeccable work of Saoirse Ronan as Eleanor this movie just do not possess a compelling story. It's tragic in a way because the acting was top notched, however the story line didn't have the strength to carry you for almost two hours.

Gemma Arterton and Saoirse Ronan are mother and daughter vampires. We don't know this at first. In fact, we'd assume that Ronan is the shy and studious younger sister to Arterton's brassy and fearless pole-dancing sociopath. But, as is the way of vampire yarns, they have each been alive for something over 200 years, and the relationship between them is fraught with old betrayals and resentments. Ref. Source 5

About the only thing I can say is I thought it was a bit long but I love the build up with the characters especially the main character and her thoughts about her mother. Definitely a different take on vampires but it is actually more realistic than the ones who fly and have super powers like Twilight.
