Cannibals

Recently my wife and I were watching a documentary about Cannibalism and I commented that it resembled some of the things that took place in the Book of Mormon. My wife was surprised about that and did not recall reading about cannibalism. Well the scriptures can be found in Moroni 9:8-10. After reading that you can see why there was so much thirst for blood on the both sides because of revenge. There are many Wild West accounts of some Indian tribes that practised these things still in the 1800s.

Cannibals

What it shocked me the most about those scriptures is the fact that it was totally unneccesary (it was not done because of survival) but instead was used to torture in any possible way (physical and psychological). By reading it I was just trying to imagine what these women and children went through. It was really hell for them. cry.gif

Cannibals Studies Doctrine Mormon

I just watched a documentary on the same topic. May have been the same one. One of the things mentioned in this documentary I watched was the fact that these tribes or people that participate in this type of cannibalistic acts were/are so far out in the middle of nowhere that they are very seldom visited by anyone. They too did not use cannibalism as a form of nourishment but rather as a form of ridding themselves from the spirit of that person (who in most cases are their enemy) and the possibilities of that person haunting them throughout life. As I watched I remember wondering if these people had lived like this since Book of Mormon time. Then I thought, no way. There is no talk of cannibalism in the Book of Mormon. Thanks for bringing this to my attention JB. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and had never stopped to think about the verse you mentioned.

I know it is no longer "recent" since you watched this (you posted Oct 05!) but I was wondering if you could explain WHY or WHAT things were similar to the Book of Mormon? Are you talking about the cannibalism itself?

DeepDoctrine mentioned it as well, wondering if they were living like this since the BofM times. I am just curious, with out having seen the program, if there were specific things that reminded you of the Book of Mormon? Especially since DeepDoctrine references it, but didn't think it happened in the Book of Mormon.

THANKS!

Cannibals

I remember very well reading that verse for the first time and thinking how gross it was you know what am I saying? We're speaking about extreme evil here how could they do something like that to women and children?
