Google's PageSpeed Module

About a year ago we installed Google's PageSpeed Module as a means to correct old page formatting and speed up content. It was working well for awhile until a recent update caused it to slow down our pages drastically. We ended up having to uninstall it over this past weekend. What has been your experience with Google's PageSpeed Module?

From what I've read it works better to serve static sites than dynamic ones like this site. For me there are better PHP handlers out there.
