Although they (Al Qaeda or Hamas) may not have had a direct influence over their (criminal youth) actions, I am sure that if this was in sighted by Islamists then young zealots influenced by such groups could start it.

Maybe it is a test, often things like this are done as a distraction for something else bigger in the making or moving, we must now look to see what we have been missing in the background.

French Violence History & Civil Business Politics

Historically speaking, most young people in many countries have been upset with their local government and the policies which they deem as unfair to them. However, in France, it seems that violence is the method that they choose to display their displeasure, and I just don't see how that can be effective. Why would the government take them seriously other than the fact that they are destroying public and private property? Is the French military and local law enforcement that inept that they can't properly control public riots to the point of them becoming uncontrollable in a matter of hours?

QUOTE
Union leaders called Chirac's announcement a great victory, but student groups said they would maintain their active opposition to the government policies.  A protest march in Paris is planned for Tuesday.

While I believe the government did the right thing in retracting an unjust law, I wonder if it will really bring any peace to the region. They mentioned "replacing" the law, not scrapping it altogether. It will be interesting to see how it unfolds from here.

I don't really think it is an unjust law. They are having severe problems with young people getting tenure (in effect) then just lazing about on the job. France, with its overwhelming socialism, is already suffering from a huge problem with lowered productivity. I think this was meant to be just a first step in reigning in socialist Welfare State.

Too bad it failed.

They have a massive unemployment rate with their youth. I can tell you all right now it is not because they are lazy.

France's social problems have stemmed from a rather poor policy of integration/assimilation. It hasn't worked and there is a massive working poor in France as we speak. They now resort to street violence to make a difference.
