Intel Vs. AMD

Between Intel and AMD chips, which do you prefer and why? Consider price, durability, speed, etc.

AMD Vs Intel

In using the older model Intel (Celeron) and AMD (Duron) I have found the AMD chip to be better. I currently use a Sempron and do not have a modern Intel chip to compare save for when I use an external computer, and then so I find it slow. I do like the variety that AMD also offers so that there is more to choose from based on both price and need.

I was mixed on this one, but ultimately chose Intel. AMD and Intel have evened out in price lately. AMD has the definite upper hand when it comes to performance. With its floating point processor, and now dual core processors, they out perform Intel, not by allot anymore, but enough. Intel, however, has the industry on its side. Most PC parts are made with intel in mind. Windows is made with Intel in mind, and Dell PC has a contract with them as well. Intel has industry backing. But the big sale killer for AMD is that their chips are just not as reliable. AMD had nearly twice the amount of defective returns as Intel and they sold less. That fact keeps me with Intel for every machine I build, for myself or others.

AMD Vs Intel

I have been an Intel partner for years in my work and have always been very happy with most of their product line including processors. I have had bad experiences with AMD processors but I have to be honest, the last AMD I really did any real work with was an Athlon 700 I think. That was quite some time ago and the newer technology does have some very nice reviews. If I sold a computer today it would definitely be Intel based, but I am very interested in seeing everyone elses experiences on this. I'd love to see the new AMD's send Intel into a frenzy about product development. I was however fairly impressed with the Socket 775 that Intel released last year.

Has anyone touched an Intel Itanium chip yet? *Just curious*
