All Night Pubs

LAST CALL FOR LAST CALL IN ENGLAND, WALES

Licensing law changes that took effect in England and Wales this week mean pubs and bars can stay open later into the night, and even 24 hours a day in the case of at least 1,000 establishments.

Pubs Night All

QUOTE
The British government thinks that by offering people more time to drink, they'll be less tempted to drink to excess.

Are they serious? Some British public servant is going to get the sack over this. How can allowing people more time to drink result in less drinking?

My sneaking suspicion is that this sort of behaviour by a small element of British people might just be cultural. Sure alcohol brings it on, but the Brits are known internationally for being extremely rowdy on the bottle. I remember in Thailand some of the behaviour I saw from British citizens was disgraceful, they really stood out amongst the tourists.

Perhaps these laws are coming into effect because 11pm is too early to shut up shop? I don't know any pub in Sydney where this is the case, so I was surprised to learn it was like this in England.
