Underprivileged Soldier
They all volunteered. The U.S. soldiers pitching in with hurricane relief along the Gulf Coast and those fighting and dying in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere decided, on their own, to serve their nation. Or was the decision made so freely? Could it be that unscrupulous Pentagon recruiters duped them, taking advantage of their poverty, their lack of education and the bleak futures they share as members of the USA's urban underclass?

This article is very well researched, it makes me proud of our government for having a volunteer based military. It is also a great reminder that it is our family, friends and ourselves that are responsible for holding the freedoms in our country as much as it is up to our governing body. A poor military, can you really believe that people would put it in terms that way? And, with the outstanding service that we receive from my military's efforts how can it even be implied that recruiters are going after the less fortunate? Is this based souly on the assumption that that is the reason our military forces encourages further education (all expense paid)?
