Added To The Olympics

The Olympics does not represent all sporting disciplines, but which ones would you like to see them include in the next Olympic season?

I would not mind seeing a Cricket tournament in the Olympics. It could be a series of One-Day internationals. There are enough countries in the world that compete in the sport to have a full-fledged tournament. The only problem I would see is with the West Indies team, since it is a comprised of a collection of countries and is not a country itself. They may have to compete individually, which shouldnt be a problem.

Not that I really like to watch it, but it does have a large following and if we have synchronized swimming and rhythmic gymnasitics it really should be recognized. Snowboarding was done on a trial basis I think last Olympics, but should get full recognition. Freestyle and Downhill contest would be good.

Just a thought,

Vincenzo

Cricket is a definite one and I am actually surprised it has not already been included since baseball is there. I also heard that because the next Olympics will be held in China they will introduce Wu Shu and Kung Fu styles - something that Jet Li has been wanting for a long time.

I think rugby has better claims than cricket. More nations play it and it isn't so long so could easily be accomodated.

I think it is ridiculous baseball is an olympic sport, it has very limited international appeal outside the US, latin america and japan.

And likewise sychro swimming, is that really a sport? Maybe there should be ballroom dancing?

I do like to watch synchronized swimming but as far as a sport goes, I guess it could work, but I don't think it'll catch on. As far as rugby goes, it should replace baseball. A lot of Americans have lost respect for baseball since the players went on strikes. As far as cricket goes, I don't know enough about the sport to say anything for or against it.

Offtopic but,
A new sport for your olympic consideration.

I like the burping idea! grin.gif

How about Olympic bowling. Kinda silly, but it could be done in winter or summer. Or how about Olympic ice water jumping! Polar Bear club does it, why not everyone else?

But seriously, I like the idea of Rugby or maybe Cricket. Both are international sports that would be fun to watch. In the U.S. we don't get exposure to those sports as much. It would be fun to watch.
