I don't that there are any more now than there were before. Maybe it's just that there is more awareness about what it is and how it affects people. Before my sister was officially diagnosed, they believed she had a series of strokes that caused her partial paralysis. It wasn't for several years that they properly diagnosed her, and then there was no follow-up treatment program or anything like that. There have been a lot of major changes in that regard, and folks today have a lot of options to help them to cope with the effects and symptoms. It is typically a young person's disease, and more women than men.

Researchers make major brain repair discovery in fight against Multiple Sclerosis
Scientists have discovered that specific cells from the immune system are key players in brain repair - a fundamental breakthrough that could revolutionize the treatment of debilitating neurological disorders such as Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Ref. Source 8r.
MS risk in children spotted with MRI brain scans. By the time multiple sclerosis (MS) is diagnosed in children, it may be difficult to prevent the disabilities and relapses that come with the disease. In a new study, researchers examined MRI brain scans to identify children at high risk of developing MS before symptoms appear, which may lead to earlier diagnosis and treatment. Source 5l.
Men hold secret to protect women from multiple sclerosis. Men are much less likely to get multiple sclerosis (MS) than women, and one reason is that they are protected by high levels of testosterone. Scientists have now discovered how it works. They have identified a guardian molecule -- triggered by testosterone -- that appears to protect males from disease. When female mice with disease are treated with this protective molecule, their symptoms were eliminated. The findings could lead to a new therapy for MS. Source 5s.
