Zakat

As a Muslim do you pay Zakat willingly or do you often have to be encouraged to do so? Do you see your Zakat being put to good use?

Zakat

I have heard two different points of view about this, on one hand Zakat can be collected by those who belong to the same Masjid, on the other hand I understand that Muslims must choose to give their own offering. Actually, we have an Imam in our country currently in prison because he is being accused of forcing the collection of Zakat through any means necessary including aggression. I would like to know what the truth is on Zakat.

Zakat Islam Studies

I see many questions here that are very general and can't be explain in one post or even a few. I will try always to answer them in a short and simple way for you to understand.

Zakat: Its like Taxes and its a must. Although most islamic governments do not force it sad.gif

How dose it work ? Its a little complicated and you need to study it. After all you can't explain the Tax Paying system you have in a word or two !

Each muslim has to pay a % of what he own's: Money or anything that has value.

Its once a year I think and poor people don't have to pay it.

What is it for:
Its used to help build the country and mostly given to the poor, sometimes fund the army if its in war.

Who collect it it:
The government and not some imam or a person !

As a muslim, what do you think of it:
Its great and they should really force it. Too many poor people these days and many rich people with xxxxxx millions in their bank accounts !

In the case of akat, who and how is it determined wether you are rich or poor? I mean at what level of income does one say "you are poor and do not have to pay Zakat"?

Offtopic but,
I am guessing English is your second language? Please use the spell check before posting just to make sure all is in order - thanks.

Zakat

Zakat is a form of charity or tax and it is 2.5% of money or anything that has a value of that hasnt been spent for a year, for example if a muslim earns $50,000 a year and saved $10,000 then the zakat is 2.5% of the $10,000.
