Jesus: Prophet sent from God

My question, and please understand I am also trying to learn more about Islam, is why did God send Jesus as a prophet, ie, for what reason and to prophecy to whom? Thanks!

Allah sent Jesus to the Jews. As was foretold in the Turah. He was to refine their worship, and get them to stop straying.
The basic message from ALL of the prophets since Abraham, has always been the same. Worship God, and God Alone. Islamic Monotheism, in other words.

I just read parts of the Quran that has to do with Jesus, if I'm correct (and correct me if I'm wrong). Islam believes that Jesus is in fact a Messiah, not from sins but from false traditions and incorrect doctrine returning Isreal back to the true beliefs of the ancient prophets.

The one who was cruified was the one who betrade him. God took jesus to heaven that day and he is still alive. He never died and is waited to come back.

Why that man was crucified, because god gave him the look of jesus and the jews thought that he is jesus.

I don't know where you got this information but I've heard others state it with no daleel as well. If you haven't the daleel do not make a claim.
I apologize for my absence, however the forums do not send me regular emails. And with blogs, talk radio, and college appearances, I am too busy to check this forum often.

To correct the quoted material.
It does not state in the Quran that Judas, the assumed traitor, was in fact the replacement. What it does state regarding the matter, In Surah an-Nisa(The Women)
156 That they rejected Faith; that they uttered against Mary a grave false charge;
157 That they said (in boast), "We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Allah.;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:-
158 Nay, Allah raised him up unto Himself; and Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise;- 159 And there is none of the People of the Book but must believe in him before his death; and on the Day of Judgment he will be a witness against them;-

The story of the crucifiction, crucifixion, as such has been succinctly explained in the Qur'anic phrase wa-laakin shubbiha lahum, which one can render as "but it only appeared to them as if it had been so" - implying that in the course of time, long after the time of Jesus, a legend had somehow grown up(possibly under the then-powerful influence of Mitrhaistic beliefs) to the effect that he had died on the cross in order to atone for the "original sin" with which mankind is allegedly burdened; and this legend became so firmly established among the latter-day followers of Jesus(not to be confused with LDS, totally different thing here) that even his enemies, the Jews began to believe it - albeit only in a derogatory sense as crucifixion was reserved for lowest of criminals.

Regarding Jesus crucifixion there are several theories. The Koranic verses only go as far to say that Jesus was not slain by Jews but rather was raised to heaven (and is to reappear at the end of days). So the details of His crucifixion in Islam are not certain. There are two main theories.

One majority theory which can be traced back to the Gospel of Barnabas claims Jesus was substituted on the cross. Another minority explanation claims he was crucified but did not die and was revived in the tomb. Both explanations seriously conflict with the Gospel narratives.

Yet another theory suggests that the context of the verse is the rebutting of the Jews who claimed they had slain the Messiah therefore the point is it was the Romans rather than the Jews who had committed the act. This explanation seems more reconcilable with the Gospel narratives but the Koranic expressions are so strong that it is difficult to accept.

Personally I cannot seem to draw a definite conclusion as to the details of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus. The only certain conclusions I draw is

1. Jesus definitely reappeared alive after the crucifixion incident regardless what happened to Him.
2. He is definitely alive today "with his Lord".
3. He definitely will reappear towards end of time.
4. His sacrifice on the cross is NOT a muslims means to salvation.
