Narnia - Page 2

We just saw this. I must say that this is the best Computer Generated movie I have seen yet. The way they made those animals move and talk was amazing. The backgrounds, music and script were all of top quality. The only thing I did not like about it was that it was purely for children, which of course is not a bad thing, but it just did not fit me.

As for the religious aspects, I can see how one could relate the lion making a sacrifice as one that is related to Jesus, Peter taking the lead as in Peter (the Rock) taking lead of the Church, etc., but I think it takes a vivid imagination to do so. I could also see how the rock cracking and the lion appearing as resurrected also signifies something since we know about the Lion of Judah. Now giving it more thought maybe the author did want to use some Biblical terms, I do not know, however this is just a great adventure movie for kids who want to make medieval creatures come to life.

Overall I liked the movie and it had to be good enough because Felipe sat all the way through it!

CS Lewis was a Christian philosopher at one time, and the books themselves have overarching christian tones that won't be noticed until you read all the books. Some of the Christian themes were too complex for the movie, so the director left them out. Here in Alabama, because the movie had a witch, it was looked down on by the Christians. All in all, yes it was a movie geared towards children, but it was also a book geared towards children.I think the movie was fantastic and I will own it as soon as possible. I do hope they make a sequel or 6.

I am not sure I understand their take on that... doesn't all stories (including the ones in the Bible) have a good and bad element? I mean to say, what do they want 'The Lion, the Wardrobe and Happy Springtime'?

Ah, so there is significance in all these 'signs' as it were. Not being a reader of the books I did not know. You should tell more in the Thread about Narnia in the Book Review Board since it sounds like you have read them.

Offtopic but,
For those of you who do like the witch: Look at the New Portal Gallery, I placed what I believe is a very nice poster of the witch in her 'glory'.

My daughter and I saw this movie over the weekend. It was a good representation of the book, though, of course, much was left out. Frankly, the book itself wasn't big on details, and neither was the movie. Definitely for kids. I loved the wardrobes (the clothing, not the furniture, although that was a nice one), and especially the witch's battle regalia.

Centaurs are very cool!

Narnia

I liked it.

It was a good movie for what it was -- a romp through a fantasy world in which bits and pieces from all sorts of legends and fairy tales were mish-mashed into one place. I think a lot of people are making Narnia out to be more than what it is, or was intended to be. Reading too much into it, so to speak.

I found that Narnia suffered from Too Much Story syndrome, a plague that can affect movies with far more story to tell than they can in available screen time. Some movies that it's been certainly noticeable in includes the Final Fantasy movie and the most recent Harry Potter.

I found that reading the entire Chronicles of Narnia was helpful in my enjoyment of the film, especially because of the oddity that four children were suddenly (and inexplicably to those who aren't in the know) made absolute rulers of an entire kingdom.

2 starblue.gif' />

When I heard this was coming out I was quite excited, the previews looked awesome and I had memories of watching the cartoon when I was little. Right before my husband and I saw it, we read the book together. I really think that made it more enjoyable.

QUOTE

As for the religious aspects, I can see how one could relate the lion making a sacrifice as one that is related to Jesus, Peter taking the lead as in Peter (the Rock) taking lead of the Church, etc., but I think it takes a vivid imagination to do so.

I disagree on this one, I hadn't heard much about the religious undertones before I read the book I don't think, but it was quite obvious to me that Aslan was a type of Christ. Edward makes a big mistake, and although he is sorry, the witch will have him no matter what unless the most powerful creature (isn't he described as so good and yet teribble - in a powerful, not bad, way - or something like that?) is willingly sacrificed in his place. After a short time, Aslan is resurrected. They also need Aslan to free the captives of the witch that are caught in stone. And there's probably more.

Although the story seems intended for children, I think adults can get a lot out of it, I certainly went for myself as I have no children (yet).
