My favorite Christmas carol would have to be "Silent Night". My grandmother taught me how to play it on an organ when I was very young (7 I think). I couldn't really sing very well but I could play the organ while she or my sister sang. We really had a good time and made a lot of wonderful memories.
My favorite would have to be Jingle Bell's, because It was really the first I had ever heard and learned, so I grew accustomed to hearing it every winter around the holiday season. My family always sings whenever my grandparents come over to visit on Christmas Eve. We all sit in front of the fire and have a good time!
My favorites would have to be Silent Night and O Holy Night. Singing carols has never been a family tradition, but it's one I hope to start when I have children down the road. Way...down...the road.
My favorite version of 'O Holy Night' is one I just heard recently by Josh Groben. His powerful voice just makes the whole song so much more powerful. Some of our girls from work sang at the tree lighting ceremony the other day, and they sang Silent Night. There is nothing more moving than hearing a bunch of young voices singing such a sweet song.
I personally really enjoy Carol of the Bells. It's my favourite song to sing, and has been for a few years. It's a tradition in my Vocal Jazz Choir and I think that it's awesome!
One that we sing at home would be O Holy Night. I really enjoy that song, I sing it a lot over the Holidays.
My favorite Christmas carol is a toss-up between "Greensleeves/What Child is This" and "O Holy Night". I enjoy playing both of these songs on the piano. I have played piano for most of my life and I enjoy putting my own personal touch on these songs during the Christmas season. I usually don't sing them while I play. I often have family sing along as I play though.
I love Joy to the World. Not only does this exemplify the eruption of joy from the angels at the birth of the Saviour, it is also a fabulous carol to sign, as in sign language. Not many songs are suitable for signing, the message isn't clear. This one, however is very clear. Enjoyable to sing and sign.
I also like O Little Town of Bethlehem, specifically "all hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight". Teaching me we have freedom of choice at any time in our lives. Those waited with eager hope for the birth of the Saviour to free us from death yet, even at this point, the Saviour still could choose not to be born..... there was still fear until his actually birth. This night all hopes and fears were combined. No wonder there was so much joy.
