Fall short of the glory of God?

God's Will To Have Children

It has been suggested that having a childless relationship/marriage goes against Gods will for us and that in so doing you fall short of the Glory of God.

QUOTE (Albert Mohler @ president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville)
"God's purpose in creation is being trumped by modern practices.  I would argue that not having children ought to be falling short of the glory of God. Deliberate childlessness defies God's will."

Children To Gods

Save for those who teach celibacy, I do not know of any religion that would teach that is okay to not have children, after all, if it was that having no children were really a good thing where would the population come from? The first parents were commanded to multiply, did I say 'commanded', yes, actually it was one of the first commandments given to man. I will also add that what is a true marriage if there are no children with which to give you the title of "father" or "mother".

Wasn't the first commandment given to mankind to "multiply and replenish the earth"? If that is so, then to deliberately avoid having children seems to go against the specific commandment of God.

Just my opinion on the matter.

Children To Gods

I don't know for sure but even though he told early man to be fruitful and multiply I don't think it is valid today. We have been fruitful and we have multiplied to the extent that some countrys have had to pass laws limiting the number of children a family can have. I think we can say that is one of Gods commandments that we did right. Now lets work on the others.

Tastanagee, although in my opinion your explanation has a unique twist to it in saying that we have already fulfilled this (multiplying), I believe God has not done away with it. Again, no religion teaches this (that we need not have children), because there is enough people in the world. Also, if we go with stats, there is enough room in the world to support billions more, but man in his greed has allocated certain places and things for himself that makes it seem crowded and that there is lack of food, but it is not so.

You're right JB. If God thought we didn't need to multiply anymore, we'd all wake up sterile. But, back when the entire population measured in the hundreds, yes it was Gods will that we have lots of children. Now, with a population of 6 billion and more, whether we have the space for them or not, I don't think it is all that important anymore. I also don't think that was a command to mankind as a whole, but to Adam and his family specifically.

That's just it, God does not think as man thinks. It is not up to us to 'think' but to do as he commands.

When God spoke to Adam, in all things that he commanded him was indeed meant for his prosperity as well, since God is unchanging and is the same yesterday, today and forever He does not command one thing to one an not to the others. Thus multiplying is valid for all mankind and again is thought in all religions, keeping in mind we are on the general Religions Board and not Christian only.

Well, I do not know why you think does not apply today, with that sense all the commandments of God are in the same status. When God spoke to Adam and Eve he did for their whole posterity, otherwise, we will need straight and personal revelation from God to each one of us by name every time he wants to command us in something.

If a couple is healthy and does not want to have children, it goes against God's will because one of the most sacred purposes within a marriage is to bring children into the world and teach them correct principles. The family unit is the most important foundation.
