Trinidad Police Carrying Firearm Home
What are your thoughts about members of the TTPS being able to take their service pistols home with them for protection?

They used to be able to carry their guns home but they stopped it after reoccurring incidents in the past where rogue cops were using their firearms for 'extra' things or 'misplacing' it and not being held accountable for it.
So wait a second, when a police officer is not in duty (let's say he/she is on vacation) and he/she witnesses a robbery he/she cannot use his/her gun because they don't have one with them at all times? I thought police officers are supposed to be officers 24/7. It makes no sense.
In the UK even patrolling officers don't have guns on them, just a baton but I think they want to change that. They have a 1-3 minutes response time though so if an officer is in distress they can call in for a squad full of gun toting officers. I think the TTPS wants to be like that but the response time is too slow even for off duty officers.
With 3 police being shot at and one of them killed in the last 24 hours I'm sure this will be good grounds for them to walk with their firearm. Interestingly enough one cop that was off duty had his firearm with him and shot one of the bandits that tried to rob him but in the process another bandit killed him.
