I was looking through my CD collection today as I was trying to find a place for a few strays, and I realized that at least half of my CD's are soundtracks, both for movies and musicals. Many people buy soundtracks from various movies and for various reasons.
Do you buy the soundtracks for movies? If not, why not? If so, what does it take to convince you to buy it? What is your favorite soundtrack you own/wish you owned?
I have three different ones because they each fall into different catagories:
1. Tarzan - It's my favorite "child" soundtrack that I own
2. Les Miserables - Is my favorite musical soundtrack
3. Lord of the Rings (1-3) - My favorite instrumental soundtrack.
Seven CD's from my music collection come from motion picture sountracks. Most I bought because it was the easiest way to get ahold of a song that really vibed with me from the movie it came from....almost all the rest because they had some heavy duty musical scores that I wanted as mood music. One simply because it was on sale for 1$.....
1. Blade Motion Picture Soundtrack ( some of the best techno/industrial beats around )
2. Mission Impossible Movie Soundtrack ( who can resist the MI theme ? )
3. The Adventures of Ford Fairlane Movie Soundtrack ( You guessed it...1 Dollar )
4. Matrix Movie Soundtrack ( Its just sooooooo cool. Had to have it. )
5. The One , starring Jet Li ( loved the cut...."Sickness" by Disturbed...but it wasn't on the soundtrack, I was DUPED!...*grin* )
6. Streets of Fire Movie Soundtrack ( something about a few of the songs really appealled )
7. Blues Brothers Soundtrack ( Who can resist the Blue brothers? )
Well, for me some soundtracks are just *awesome* while some can be horrible, for obvious reasons it's such a random genre, if it can be called one.
To follow in Babyblues' pattern, here are my favorites:
1. Favorite "children's movie" soundtrack: Prince of Egypt
2. favorite musical soundtracks: Les mis (it's just great ) and Phantom of the Opera
3. favorite instrumental soundtracks: Last of the Mohicans, Lord of the Rings (I own neither of them, but have heard them plenty and they are great).
I do not own any soundtracks because the majority of my cd collection was stolen in July. However, I am hoping to get the soundtracks for A Walk to Remember, Jersey Girl, Take the Lead, and possibly the soundtrack for Breakfast Club if I can find it again.
I don't usually buy soundtracks, and I wonder why - there are some wonderful soundtracks out there, as everyone has pointed out. Some of my favorite tracks (that I can think of right off the top of my head):
Last of the Mohicans
Star Wars
West Side Story
Saturday's Warrior (LDS movie)
Muppet Movie and Muppets Take Manhatten
