Song Of Soloman

What do you think about the Book known as 'The Song of Soloman' considering that it can be quite graphic for the Bible? Does your religion or belief system question the presence of this Book as part of the Bible?

How funny. If you believe the Bible is perfect then you cannot question whether it should be in the Bible. I however think it should be in the Bible. This book shows that sex, foreplay, and other types of enjoyment are perfectly acceptable in Gods eyes. So many people thing that anything besides boring sex is wrong and evil. It isn't, and if you read this book, you see that it is not just acceptable, but suggested. It helps keep a marriage fun and enjoyable.

The book also refers to this behavior outside of marriage. At one point, she says that she wishes that he was like a brother to her so she could kiss him in public and get away with it. But at other times, in fact many times, she is referred too as his sister. So this book is not what it says, a great love story between two married people. It is a love song between two lovers and marriage is not specified. She is mentioned as his bride once or twice, but other times, it is implied that their love is forbid at the moment.

Kon, I did not understand well your answer. First you said you think this book should be included in the Bible because it talks that sex and foreplay is acceptable in God's eyes within a marriage. Then you mentioned that there are several parts of that book that may give the impression that is not talking about a marriage. So what's your position then?.

I personally think that the book is not inspired. I do not think is poetic either. I do not see the need of reading how beautiful are certain private parts of a woman, in what way is that going to help me or uplift me spiritually?. Also taking in consideration that MOST of what is being said is in my opinion, full of lust...I do not see the need of having it included in the Bible.

The song of solomon is there for a reason. It portrays the beauty of intimacy between a man and a woman and is also a picture of Christ (the groom) and his bride (the Church).

In our jaded and sin oriented perspectives... some of the things in the book would seem 'nasty'. But sex is not nasty. Sin has made it so. But in holiness, it is an intimate experience of God in the picture between a man and a woman who have committed themselves to each other.

The creation of male and female and the joy of intimacy in the physical, soulical, and spiritual... is a mystical pictoral on earth of what (I, myself) will have as 'the bride of Christ' in heaven. Now understand... The bible teaches no need for sex in heaven... we won't have the equipment or the gender... just new bodies... so we are talking strict intimacy on a level of pleasure and wonder that trancends the whole enchelada.

The Song of Solomon, if read in that contrext, takes on a more profound meaning for me.

Just because it talks about sexual things happening outside of marriage does not mean I think it shouldn't be in the Bible, it should be there. It shows an example of how beautiful and sensual love can be between two people in love. But the fact that it has one of Israelis greatest kings doing seemingly forbidden acts would indicate that these things outside of marriage are not necessarily wrong. Its all interpretation to be sure, but it lends credence to the idea that all sex outside of marriage is not necessarily wrong. For christians who believe the Bible is perfect, they have to question why something so "sinful" is given an entire book of the Bible.

Yes, do keep it in the bible. It not only shows us that you don't have to be all secretive about sexual matters, it shows how important love is to a marriage.
