I thought this would be on the increase, but then again - these days everyone is an A+ Tech, a Computer Specialist, a Programmer, a Web Designer, etc.
REPORT: COMPUTER DEGREES LOSING APPEAL
The number of undergraduates signing up for computer degrees continues to
decline, fueling concerns among tech companies that there won't be enough
skilled workers to meet demand, according to Monday's USA Today.

Well, I consider that good news for me. A shortage of workers will eventually translate into higher wages. Of course, once that happens, more people will sign up again for those classes. It all works out in the end.
I fall into this category myself actually. I am no longer majoring for my computer degree myself. I am now focusing on a degree in business management. Certification are the credentials that are now appealing employers for the computer related experience that they desire, but they do still want a degree in my case, but they don't wish it to be in computers. I was advised to complete either with BM or a degree of some kind in Marketing. I currently hold Comptia A+, N+, I-net+, and Microsoft MCSE with NT 4.0 and my MCP for XP. My manager is pushing for my full MCSE for XP so I guess I will do that next and follow that by my Cisco line. Hopefully when I finish that I will have the credit hours I need for my 4 yr degree that is not computer related.
My fiance is still majoring in Computer Engineering. It's an incredibly tough road, but he's done so well. He wants to work in the nanotechnology field. He's always telling me about students who drop the program because they simply can't cope with it. He tries to talk to me all the time about the stuff he's learning, and I know I have the most dumbfounded expression on my face. It is rough. But there's also a lot of money in the field, which neither one of us mind.
As my fiance said, I have to agree with you guys. I know I am looking forward to my degree and the opportunity that it gives me, but there are many people who are just giving up on it. When I was at the University of West Florida, seven people in just one of my classes dropped the program in the effort to get a degree in something easier.
Many people just feel as if the major is too difficult, which at times I admit there is a lot for me to remember. I do believe that the benefits are worth it though. Soon I will be able to be part of the newest research fields and what our future will be. If anything, this should be why people should find computer degrees appealing.
