Cursing In School

Cursing is costly at two schools

Students at two Connecticut schools can either watch their language or watch their money disappear. In an effort to curb abusive language directed at school faculty, Bulkeley High School and Hartford Public High School has instituted fines for students who use foul language.

I think that will be a very good policy and more schools should look into something similar to that. I know many kids I went to school with would have been broke all the time. Maybe when the parents start to have to pay these fines because their kids can't watch their mouths in school they will learn to educate their children on more of the proper language. My mom would have hung me had she had to pay over $100 because I cursed in school. This seems to be a good "real world" experience that I believe the kids need. That being that with each freedom we have, comes at a price.

What is the cause of cursing at school and how can it be prevented?

School Cursing

I think it's a good measure in trying to correct a problem, although it will, realistically, never demolish the problem. Still, it is nice to see that some schools are doing something more than simply ignoring the fact that ugly words are escaping the mouths of babes.

Why is it happening? It's mostly a freedom thing. Once they get into middle school and high school, there's that sense of being able to speak how you want to because you don't have faculty breathing down your neck every two seconds. I was, sadly, the same way when I first entered middle school. It lasted for all of about two weeks, then I realized it was completely pointless. (No offense meant for those who may use profanity.)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but were these students cursing at the teachers?
I'll be honest, I didn't have the cleanest mouth in school, but I never had the audacity to curse at a teacher.

Cursing In School

I was such a teacher's pet in school. I don't think, out of respect, I could have ever thought about using profanity in front of a factulty member, nonetheless have those words directed towards them. I have, unfortunately, seen teachers completely be verbally abused by students, with the use of profanity, and the teachers do nothing about it. It isn't uncommon, at least it wasn't here, for students to use profanity towards teachers.
