Why things like this never happen to me? Oh, maybe because I do not have a car
Broken-hearted donor leaves diamond ring in car
An anonymous gift-giver left a $15,000 diamond engagement ring to the owner of an unlocked car in western Massachusetts with a typed note hinting at a broken heart.
"Merry Christmas. Thank you for leaving your car door unlocked. Instead of stealing your car I gave you a present. Hopefully this will land in the hands of someone you love, for my love is gone now. Merry Christmas to you," the note said...

That's the saddest story I've heard in a long time. The fact that the "gift giver" took the time to type up a note, rather than just leave the ring, suggests a long period of sadness. It's almost like a suicide note. Very sad.
You are right Farseer, oh gosh, I got the dollar sign on my eyes when I said that, but the good thing about it is that we all can move on from a broken heart even though we may think we will never be able to do it.
Again, Farseer I think we are on the same line of thought. I would be very interested in knowing if there is a suicide in the area that would fit the description of the person who wrote that note.
Not that one can really tell by a note, but someone might -- perhaps the ring was offered to a woman who turned it down and she might know who the person is. I know I am really reading a lot into it, but I watch a lot of forensic shows and I guess that's how my mind works.
I clicked on the link and it brought me to a page not found, unfortunately so I couldn't read the whole article. I hope the car he put it into was a more run-down vehicle indicating the person maybe needed the money for their own Christmas. Here I go again reading more into it. Someone ought to stop me!
