Are You Afraid To Ask?

Does the religion to which you belong to welcome questions from its members about controversial things or does it shun it? For instance... if you were Catholic could members feel confident in asking about the issue of child abuse or the crusades? If you were Muslim would you feel confident in asking your Imam his views on terrorism and how he feels about the USA? The discussion focuses not on one religion but wether you will get an answer or not from your religious leaders. So, what say you... are you afraid to ask? Added to this discussion... do you feel the answer you get fulfills you or leaves you with even more questions?

No, I am not afraid to ask, the problem I face is that most people I know in my Church here do not know the basic doctrines, how could I possible ask something deeper then? undecided.gif I have to rely on my own research and the views of other members here on our forum. But if I would have someone who knows about it, I would have no problem whatsoever to ask them. Right now, if I open my mouth and start asking questions then half of the members will go less active. undecided.gif

Are You Afraid To Ask? Beliefs Religious General

Personally speaking, my church would welcome deep discussion/questioning. I think in the possible cases of child abuse, I think that it is everyones duty to be aware that this can go on in anybody's religion, and if anything people should be more observant.
I think it is every religious leaders duty to be able to try to be able to answer "deep" questions, and if they can't do this, at least be able to point you in the right direction of somebody who can/or able to.

Remembering, that we might not like the answers that we receive, but if that is your religions' answer, and you don't like it, you have a choice to find a religion that you do believe in.

Ask Afraid Are

I feel very confident in bringing up controversial issues with members of my church. I value what they have to say, and since most of them are elderly and have been dedicated Christians most their lives, they generally have a vast knowledge far greater than my own. I think, as far as my religion goes, that one should never just take somebody's word for it, but also back it up with the Bible. Everybody has their opinion, but I know for me, I don't want opinion, I want fact. If somebody cannot back what they believe up with the Bible and in context, then I probably will not take much into account of what they have to say.
