There is a moment just before the ball reaches you that you must hit it. It is during that moment that you score a run. If you wait too long then you either get a foul, hit the pitcher or miss altogether. Finding that special spot will allow you to make consecutive hits. Keep in mind that you can constantly swing the bat, you do not have to do it once only, but if you try the constant method then your accuracy gets a bit off center.
