I have been to several Communities that were mainly Islam based and when I tried to use certain avatars was told that I could not use pictures that were against the rules of Islam. For instance if a picture showing a woman with no hijab on is shown then it is frowned upon. I found this very restrictive and was not the case on all, but some Forums. What is the reason for this? How do Muslims deal with images that are seen readily every day that they have no control over?
I am, by no means, an expert on the Islam belief. I think it is one of those things where they control what they can. They can't control everything, but if they have a site dedicated to their belief and they decide that they're perogitive is to not allow them, then that's their preference. There are things in our society, like certain television shows, that I don't agree with because of their obscene content. I can't control it, but I can control whether or not I watch it. Like I said, I am not expert on the Muslim faith, but I can apply that sort of thinking in my own beliefs.
I comprehend that angle of it and appreciate it, however, understanding it may require one to live within the culture of Islam. I did ask one Muslim about it and even inferred that Muslims would have a difficult time if a woman or even a very beautiful woman with no hijab came up to them to ask a question, etc. He replied by saying that most Muslims are taught to put their eyes down while speaking to a woman with no hijab. I have no verification for this as I am still trying to find an active Community member that is Muslim to inform us.
