Rainbows: A Promise Of God

Most people know the story of Noah and the Ark, where God flooded the Earth for 40 days and 40 nights, and Noah and his family were chosen to build the ark and take the animals on board so they would survive. There's a part of that story that I think a lot of people over look in the telling and teaching of it, and that's the significance of the rainbow.

"I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth." Genesis 9:15-16

Do you think of that promise God gave to man whenever you see a rainbow? Sometimes I get so caught up in my day that if I'm blessed to see a rainbow, I just think to myself "Oh, pretty. A rainbow." Then I scold myself because I'm overlooking a symbol and a gift from God.

Remember that the rainbow is a promise of God!

You are absolutely correct in the way that people overlook this. I myself am guilty on this and am currently kicking myself in the rear about it. I have never actually looked at it in this way. I am so glad that you took the time to post this. I am going to go back and read this section again this evening, it has been quite a while since I have.

With six children, we have had young children in the house for the last 21 years. So, whenever there has been a rainbow around, we have all looked at it in wonder.

However, I can't really say that we have spent much time pondering the promise associated with it

I'm almost embarrassed to say that I think of this promise often! My daughter and I have discussed the significance of the rainbow a couple of times, and I try to remember to point it out to her.

I'm very grateful that God himself promises that we won't be wiped out by a global flood!
