Tinydancer Introduction

My American grandchildren are moving to Trinidad with their American mother. I was wondering how Trinidad schools determine what grade they would be in. One is 13 and in the states is in high school courses. The other child is 10 in a very advanced elementary school. My daughter is planning to send them to Trinidad's public schools. Also, for Americans on a visa, is there a tuition for public school?

Welcome. This is really supposed to be an Introduction of yourself and then you take your questions to the correct Board as Rasta gave you however, may I ask why they are coming to Trinidad? If it is that their father is a citizen then they have many automatic rights. You may like to look over these Threads:

* Trinidad Education System vs US Education Standard
* How Good is Trinidad & Tobago to Live?
* White Foreigners In Trinidad (if applicable)
* White American Experiences Trinidad & Tobago
* Resident Foreigners And Immigrants In Trinidad
* Dual Citizenship In Trinidad & Tobago

I apologize for the misunderstanding about the introduction. If I could combine my intro and answer your questions. I am a retired educator in America. My interests and passions are dancing, gourmet food preparation and volunteer work. I have travel to many Island counties and my daughter-in-law is from Central America.

The whole family is American including the father. My daughter is raising the children alone with help from many family members in America. She has visited Trinidad for about four week on two different occasions with a friend (a woman) who has citizenship in my country as well as Trinidad. My daughter's expectation is to start restaurant in Trinidad with a person from Trinidad who is putting up the money and her friend who went to a cooking school in America. Let me be clear, she has no money for private schools. She will be in POS with her friend in mid-June. Her plan is to get an apartment, a jobs, and plan the restaurant. She believes that the children will be able to go to school in Trinidad when they arrive in August. My questions were: can they go to school there? Is there tuition for foreigners? Furthermore, he is a middle school student taking high school classes and she is in an advanced elementary school. Will they be placed appropriately? Thank you for listening. I have many questions to follow including health care.
