Now, I am not trying to be cruel, but I am amazed that such news as a whale being stuck in the River Thames would make International headlines.
Whale Stuck
A whale that became stranded in the River Thames in London has died after a rescue attempt.
Ref. CBC news.
I think the question becomes how did the whale get into the Thames river? The opening from the North Sea is large enough for a whale, but he whale went against its nature to come through a water way that has several bays surrounding it. Being that, it must have ignored the large amounts of ships in the bay and still made its way to the mouth of the Thames river. Then it had to deliberately swim upstream to reach the London area. That very odd.
From what I understand, whales will behave odd if they are subject to pain such as distressing sounds affecting their sonar or some problem in the water. Maybe the whale may have been sickly or something close to it?
Either way, it was very sad to hear the whale died, but it almost seemed inevitable. I have been to the Thames river and due to its popularity and not being very wide, I could see how a whale would bring a lot of attention.
