Churches Reconsider Sponsoring Boy Scout Troops
Religious Based News
Some churches have said they will end their affiliation with the Boy Scouts after its decision to allow openly gay members to join. Boy Scouts of America ends longstanding ban on gay scout leaders
The Boy Scouts' 80-member board voted Monday to approve a resolution that lifts the organization-wide ban on gay adult leaders. Individual scout units will be able to set their own policies regarding whether to allow gay men to lead scout troops. The vote follows an impassioned plea in May by BSA president Robert Gates, a former secretary of Defense: "We must deal with the world as it is, not as we might wish it to be," He said. "The status quo in our movement's membership standards cannot be sustained." Ref. USAToday
