Two Missionaries Shot In Chesapeake, One Dies

The missionary who died is 21-years-old. Police are not releasing his name until his next of kin is notified. Chesapeake police say the shooting happened just after 6:00 Monday night on Elkhart Street. That's in the Deep Creek neighborhood. The two missionaries were on their bicycles at the time. According to a preliminary report, police say a man walked up to the two missionaries and shot them. The missionaries are from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Now that is tragic, I hope it was not because they were in an area they should not have been. Was this done out of spite, revenge or just another lunatic that was looking for a target. Sad to say... the First Presidency will be calling some sad parents soon.

I can't even imagine having something this horrific happen to my family! We can "only" pray [perhaps being the most important thing we can do] for the family involved.

Shot Missionaries

I just research more about it, it seems like the two missionaries witness a shooting. A man shot another guy and the victim pretended to be hit and fall to the ground, at the same time, the missionaries with their bikes were coming down the corner and witnessed the whole thing, that's where this criminal shot both of them killing the 21 years old Utahn missionary who was planning to return home from his mission in March. The area was not a dangerous area at all. It seems to be a issue of bad luck, being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Well, what they actually do in this kind of cases is send a Church official in person to the parent's home to inform the sad news (as they did in this case).

I am very sad to hear these news, even more knowing that this poor missionary was coming home in a couple of months. Heartbreaking.

SAFETY OF MISSIONARIES IS PRIORITY, LDS LEADER SAYS

When accidents happen, there often is no explanation. `An accident is an accident, and we have to accept it for that,` said Elder M. Russell Ballard, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
