Now That You Have 30 Posts

With all the hype you may have read or seen about the 'greatness' of the Community written by the Architect and Members, Now That You Have 30 Posts under your belt would you say that it (the overall Community) is what you expected, more than you expected or less than you expected?

NOTE: 30 posts is used as a guide for Members who are more or less integrated into the Community rather than someone who has just joined and does not know their way around.

I'd say I feel that the community is what I expected. I did a lot of looking around before signing up because I didn't want to waste anyone's time, so I wasn't really all that shocked at its goodness. I am always pleasantly surprised at the positive feedback some of my posts get and am very comfortable voicing my views on topics without the fear that someone's going to tell me that my thoughts are stupid or worthless. I do always fear that I'm going to insult someone unknowingly or offend without meaning to, so I beg that if I do someone gives me the proverbial smack on the wrist!

I am interested in that. What brings on this fear? Do you find that most people are sensitive in the Community or are you describing a feeling of naivety that may be shown in your own posts?

I have personally have found this forum to be more than I was expecting, I thought I would just come and have a look at some of the international news issues, but that has ended up being the part that I use the least.I have enjoyed talking to other people, and I have been made very welcome on here. I am also getting more confident the more I "post"-- so I am definitely gaining a lot!

I find myself feeling the same way. But I think it is the same when I write emails to people that I do not know really well. It's just harder to interpret intentions sometimes with writing, because of course it lacks the intonations, facial expressions, etc. that come with face-to-face. I am gradually getting to know people better here, but it is not the same as writing an email to a family member, and even then I still try to be careful!

I don't think that most people in the community are sensitive, in fact far from it. But I have to admit that because of past experiences I am careful so that I don't ruin new friendships by accident.

I definitely feel like I've gotten "more than I bargained for" because I really came here initially to get into the LDS boards. I feel that I spend more time working on random threads that make me think than falling back on the one thing that I live daily. I never really expected there to be so MUCH to be talking about!

The forum is more than I expected because of the diversity. I love exploring new topics and expressing myself in so many different avenues, and hearing others do the same. I agree with you, MissMolly, there is a lot to talk about! I just wish I had more time to do so. I also enjoy the constructive posting rule. That makes for a lot less wasted reading time.
