Should Boston College Award Condoleeza Rice An Honorary Degree?
Last week, Boston College announced that Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice would be speaking at this year's commencement ceremony on May 22nd where she would also be receiving an honorary law degree. Over 200 faculty members have signed a letter in opposition. We host a debate between two Boston College professors on both sides of the issue.

After reading the debate on the website provided, the issue is not about Condoleeza Rice and her achievements, but about individual perceptions and feelings about the current war in Iraq. My opinion, is that when handing out an honorary degree, the person needs to be looked at for what they have accomplished during their career. Clearly, and admittedly, this debate is not about that at all.
For anyone who doubts that she is worthy of such an honorary degree, I urge them to read about her accomplishments here

It is also noteworthy that she has previously received honorary degrees from other Universities. Personally, there was nothing in the debates that would lead me to believe she should not be granted this degree, and the fact that personal opinion about the current war is what initiated the debate in the first place is ludicrous in my opinion.
I would say yes they should. Have you ever looked up how much education this woman has? She has two Masters Degrees! If anyone deserves and honorary degree its her. When it comes to being an example for children going to school, her life and educational career is bar none above the others. Give he the degree, she has earned it by her example.
