Would You Have Crucified Him?

Would You Have Crucified Him?

Many of the Jews who were distraught with the teachings of Jesus proclaimed to Pilate that He should be crucified. If you were a staunch Jew during the time of Christ and you saw His (Jesus Christ) miracles and heard His words... would you have denied Him or accepted the message and joined the Christians?

Him Crucified You Would

It is so hard to answer this question because I would have to be at that time and being raised as a jew in order to know exactly what I would have done. I believe that if for some reason the teachings and miracles of Jesus Christ would not have impressed me at all, at least I would have allow Pilot to let him go, I would not have ask to crucify him since even though I may have chosen not to follow him and his teachings, I would have thought he did not do anything wrong worth of death.

Would You Have Crucified Him? Studies Doctrine Mormon

Jesus pointed out that those who rejected and persecuted him would have rejected Moses and the ancient prophets also, had they been alive then. So, by the same token, those who reject and persecute the living prophets today would have done the same to Christ if they had been alive in His time. We tend to revere whoever's dead and safely in the past, because when prophets are dead they can't criticize us or our way of life, and in our minds we can make them into whatever we want to believe. But you can bet that apostates and antis who today turn against the living LDS prophets and publish slander about them, would have responded the exact same way to Christ if he had been among them.

Perhaps another interesting question would be, how would I have responded to Joseph Smith? I'm not at all sure I would have given much credence to some backwoods hick with a history of treasure-divining who claimed to dig up a golden Bible and translate it, and who decided polygamy would be a good idea. Now that he's safely dead and revered, it's a lot easier to for me to buy into his prophet-hood than it would have been if he suddenly cropped up today on USA Today's "weird news."

Zeze, although the points you brought up were interesting you did not answer the question for yourself on topic. As for me, I am not sure if I would have turned away or not. Considering the stubbornness of the people then and me being staunch as is suggested in the first post would mean I am not likely to listen. In the same light... if someone came out of Iraq and claimed to have a 'Gospel' different from Mormonism - would you have gone looking after it? Not likely, I am sure it was the same for the people then, however, one thing is sure... if I truly had the desire and heard His words and witnessed His acts I hope that I would become one of the likely followers.

I've always been an openminded person, so I would of watch him for sometime and then I would study the scriptures to see if he fulfilled some of the prophecies and if he did, I would believe he was the Messiah. Now to the question, being the way I am I highly doubt that I would have crucified him, if anything I would of been one of the people who wanted him to be released. But that goes counter-productive in our Fathers Plan.

I believe my actions at the time of Christ would be the same as they are today. I have received a witness, through the Holy Ghost, that Jesus is the Christ and that this is His church. I don't' think time and place change who we are. I would have done the same then. I would have accepted Christ and joined the Christians.
