Weekly Devotionals

Each week I will post a Biblical Devotion, with the ok from JB, in this post. They won't be anything long and elaborate, but just something to hopefully send some encourage and spark a little light discussion. Please feel free to share in here if a particular Bible Verse sparks your attention.

This thread really isn't meant for debate of any sort.

"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."
Proverbs 3:5 KJV

If you're anything like me, I have a tendency to want control over everything. It started when I was in school and had to work on school projects with other kids, and ended up being the person who had to do everything if I wanted a good grade. Since then, I don't show as much faith and trust when I have to work with a group in an acedemic setting.

Sometimes I've noticed that my desire to control things has spread to my relationship with God.It took a lot of being taught by God to let go of what made sense to me. God's plan doesn't always make sense to me, and it's those times when I don't want to let go of what I find sensible.

The Bible tells us to trust in God and do not focus on our own understanding. That means when He tells us to do something, we don't try to rationalize it in our terms. God's plans are sometimes different than ours, and He has the ability to see the entire picture. God will equip us with what we need when the time comes.

Week of January 30

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?"

Matthew 6:25

We live in a time where there is always the thread of war, violence, and hatrid. It opens the way for people to delve into a lot of worrisome thoughts. There are weapons out there that with one press of a button could tear a whole in half of a continent. We live in a society where parents have to worry about their child walking two blocks down to school. It's a very worrisome time.

God tells us not to worry, that He has us taken care of. He is going to provide for us, be it food or some other need that arises.

For me, I'm a huge worrier. I don't necessarily worry about what I will eat next or what clothes I have or if I'm in "style." I tend to make myself sick worrying over other people. I get worried when people are sick, when they aren't where they say they were going to be and I can't get in touch with them, etc. When the state of Texas was on fire, I started freaking out because my grandpa's farm, my favorite place on earth, was right in the middle of it all.

God is constantly putting it in my heart that I need to stop worrying and just give it Him. "Let go and let God." God has His way of doing things, and just like trusting him, he expects us to lay our burdens on Him and let Him deal with it. God has a plan for all things, and it's in His will, whether we see it or not.

Weekly Devotionals Revealed Bible The

I've heard it said that "faith and fear cannot coexist." (Mark 4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?) If we have perfect faith, we won't be fearful.

Now, having said that, most of us don't have perfect faith, and so we fear and we worry about things. We doubt. Sometimes it's so difficult to put complete trust in the Lord, and in God Almighty; to let go of our fears and believe that God will provide.

We also have to trust, if something happens that we feel is a terrible tragedy, that these things are part of the Plan that He has for us, that He will not give us more than we can bear, good or bad.
