UNIVERSITY STUDENTS OFFERED A B-MINUS TO DROP COURSE

A University of Prince Edward Island lecturer makes no excuses for offering students a 70 to not show up for his course. But the administration gives his deal a failing grade.

Course Drop B-minus

Having paid my way through school with blood, sweat, and tears as well as my own student loans that I am still paying back, I have mixed views on this.

One one hand, this is their life, and their money, let them do what they choose with it. Offering them a B minus for a class that they paid for but most likely won't learn anything is a good idea. Don't over crowd the class room for some over the hill admins sense of educational ideals.

On the other hand, at that age, most students don't even fully know what they want to do with their lives. They may need this information or even become interested in the subject because of the class. By offering the easy way out, it cheaps their school experience as well as other students experience and even cheaps education as a hole. Allowing a credit to be bought and not earned is a disservice to the students at the school.

There most likely is a right answer to this. Its probably my second feeling. But I think I will reserve absolute judgement on this one, but I thought that both my feelings on this have a place.

I recently decided to fininsh up my degree after many years. The Univ had added some courses that were very basic. Yet even with my working experience they said that I had to take the courses. To now hear that a Univ is selling courses with a passing grade...Where was this went I was going to college?

Why is the class overbooked? - Sounds like a money making event - Who would not want to sign up for a class for a free pass - maybe that's why it is overbooked - Makes one wonder about the all the elective courses - are they really needed - a business major having to do Chemistryetc etc

Thus - what I have gathered from this - we can bring the price of education down -by making the course work more major related...
