During the night you start to see the menacing eyes of wolves carefully approaching your small camp from the South, but they do not come within the distance of your sling or arrows. They seem to be circling your camp trying to weigh your strength and weaknesses. You strain your eyes to keep up with their movements but your camp fire does not help. Everyone turns their head every which way and you eventually notice that you can no longer see the eyes of the wolves anymore, neither hear the howls of their lung's breath. You wonder what this all means.
You try to get some sound sleep, but you still remain uneasy you stay half awake most of the night. At around 5:00am or as far as you can estimate, you are very alert for the day ahead.
GM: Say what you will do now.
You gather wood for two days camp fire, and put the load in the wagon. You then eat from the rations.
GM: Both has been noted and one skin has been used from each.
You journey to the North East and see that it is more forested than your previous location. Kalfie and Klar look for tracks. They see there has been movement in the area, probably one or two days ago. Men on horses and also dog or wolf tracks are seen here and there. There seems to be traffic going from the South to the North towards East City.
You then head South and note the barren unfriendly terrain. There is no water supply and thus there is no grass or trees. Life is rough out here and you know nothing caught injured could survive for very long. As you get closer (three miles) to the South Mountains you can see that there is a light smoke coming from the top of the South West mountain on the West side of Death's Mouth (you are about 30 minutes ride from there). From your current position you note that the mountains are so jagged and slant at such a steep angle that it will be almost impossible to climb. You cannot ascertain if it is the same below where you have spotted the smoke.
GM: 9am. Say what you will do now.
Klar and Kalfie ride out to look for easy to spot vulnerabilities in the area that may aide in defeating any attack by the bandits. Here are some things you note about Death's Mouth and the immediate surroundings:
1. It is dry and barren.
2. The only sign of life you can see are carrions flying high
3. The mountains are not passable by simply climbing
4. There is no place to 'hide' per se because of the shape of the mountains
5. There are no signs of vegetation or water
You can see why no one ventures out here, but what confuses you is how does anyone survive out here, including those that you pursue?
GM: 10:00am. Say what you will do now.
You go back to where you saw the tracks North East of your current position. You are hungry from this movement as the afternoon now sets in.
You find many suitable spots that can make a fair camp. At least you can see the wagon tracks while having a forest nearby to encompass your position.
You check the tracks. They have not been used in about a week or so. You wonder how long you will be there before seeing another passerby.
GM: 2:00pm. Say what you will do now.
You set up camp. Wood is collected, what looks like a safe stream is found, and various snares are setup. You each eat one ration.
During the night you hear the sounds of wolves in the far distance, but you are left undisturbed. Other than a few mosquitoes the night passes quietly and you arise vigorous for a new day except for one thing... Cirdan is missing, and although you call out for him and look around he is no where to be found. You find it very odd and begin to wonder what happened.
GM: 5:00am. Say what you will do now. Cirdan is no longer in the party.
You do your usual camp preparations. You are disappointed about having not caught anything during the night. After making yourselves ready you then set out to look over the surrounding area. To the North and East there is a lot of forest and more or less flat land so you are not able to see much. 20 minutes South does little for you save to go more into the plains and to see the South Mountains very far from your location.
GM: Say what you will do now. 6:00am
You ride out again and explore a different part of the Southern range of mountains. All around you is barren land. You diligently look at the mountains hoping for any visible signs of entrances such as open caves, but you do not see any. From the looks of it even if there were a cave within the heights of the mountains it would be impossible to reach because of the steepness and rough edges of the jagged rocks that surround these mountains.
You push on until you get to the other unknown opening of the Southern Mountains (P10). Everything here seems dismal and unfriendly with just rock, grit, earth and stone to welcome you. You notice there are only tracks of humans and wolves going in, but none coming out. The tracks are also very old, few, and visible only because of rain spots that have hardened them. You see some carrions (black birds) flying high in the sky a few miles South from where you are, and they are circling in a hunting pattern usually associated with having found something dead to feast on, obviously something tantalizes them there below, but you are too far to see what it may be.
