Warrant for man charged with setting wife on fire
QUOTE A WARRANT was yesterday issued for the arrest of the man charged with attempting to murder his wife by setting her on fire.
Harrypersad Singh failed to show up in court in the case in which he is accused of trying to kill Andrea Badree.
The matter was expected to begin in the San Fernando First Magistrates' Court. However, at 10.34 a.m. Singh was still not in court.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington took out the warrant with the
Order that Singh, 32, of San Fernando, not be granted bail when arrested.
Around midday, Singh showed up. Attorney Subhas Panday said that Singh was waiting at the office of another lawyer when the matter was called.
"You have a foolish man before you... It was an act of foolishness on his part," Panday said. But Wellington reminded them that the charge was attempted murder.
"The warrant will have to be executed on him... I'm not recalling at this stage," The magistrate said. Last month, six witnesses were ready to give evidence in the case against Singh but the matter was adjourned by another magistrate to yesterday's date.
Badree, 28, was burnt on the face, neck, chest and hands after she was doused with a flammable liquid and set alight.
