More than 3.9 million Spanish-speaking members of the Church can now study the LDS scriptures on the Internet in their native tongue. The Internet edition of the Spanish Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price was released by the Church on Monday, September 25, 2006. The Spanish version has all the same features the English Internet edition offers, including footnotes, study helps, maps, photographs, and the ability to mark scriptures.
This will be a wonderful asset to the Spanish speaking members of the Church. In this years October issue of the Ensign I saw that Spanish is the second top language spoken by Church members at 31.1%. English speaking members are 47.8%. I would have guessed Spanish was second but I was surprised at how close a second it is. Just as a way of information, Portuguese was third at 7.7%.
It is a great tool. Too bad that the Bible is not available, too. The Bible version we use in Spanish is called "Reina Valera" and the Church does not have rights over it, therefore we do not have quads of the Scriptures available in Spanish, we always need to have our Bibles separated from the rest.
