Nagorno-Karabakh

What are your thoughts about the unrecognized military controlled territory called, "Nagorno-Karabakh"? Do you believe they should be recognized as a country?

QUOTE
Nagorno-Karabakh is a region of Azerbaijan, in the South Caucasus, located about 270 km (about 170 mi.) west of the Azerbaijani capital of Baku. The region is predominantly ethnic Armenian, and is under Armenian military control. The local Armenian population declared independence from Azerbaijan on December 10th, 1991 and declared the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR). The NKR's sovereign status is not recognized by any country or international organization in the world.

Nagorno-karabakh

From reading the wikipedia definition, it seems this is the key statement as to why the Republic has not formally united with Armenia:

QUOTE
Successive Armenian governments have resisted internal pressure to unite the two, fearing reprisals from Azerbaijan and from the international community, that still considers Nagorno-Karabakh part of Azerbaijan

The post Soviet war between Armenia and Azerbaijan and subsequent cease-fire is what has kept this piece of land literally in-limbo between the 2 countries. This is not a small piece of land either, with dimensions exceeding 1700 square miles, and a population of 150,000+. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next decade or so with this land mass.
