Even though I don't have a family to cook for, I eat all of my meals at home or from home. It's really a matter of cost more than family ritual. My family didn't sit down to family meals, so I think I agree with the above posters that it makes me want to have family meals more when I have a family. Make that be one of the priorities, as LDS_Forever said. Demand even! Just logistically speaking, I have to eat at home.
Well this is an interesting topic. Home cooked meals are a thing of the past in some countries. I guess with both parents working and even their own children have "hectic" schedules, so no one has time to cook let alone eat together! I couldn't help but feel a wave of sadness when I saw an advertisement on cable promoting to spend time with your family by having meals together, as a way to keep in touch with your kids and also, to assist in keeping them off of drugs.
Personally, I think home cooked meals are the best for the following reasons:
1) It is much cheaper than buying fast food.
2) It is far more healthier than fast food since you are the one in control of what ingredients are added.
3) To sit down with your family and enjoy a home cooked meal is always delightful and gives you the opportunity to discuss what happened during the day.
4) Any leftovers can be used for lunch at work the following day.
5) You always know what your family will enjoy and you can easily avoid using ingredients that may have "adverse side effects," when consumed by your loved ones.
