The judge was unimpressed and even though it has been proved that he indeed has been helping the homeless with money, stealing is stealing and he will spend a few years behind bars.

Corey Alan Donaldson, 40, probably will be deported to his native Australia after he completes his prison sentences.
If for some reason Donaldson won't be deported, U.S. District Judge Alan Johnson ordered him to spend three years of supervised probation in the United States.
Donaldson also must pay the full $140,750 he was convicted of stealing from U.S. Bank, last year.
The only time self-help author, who claims that he had stolen the money with the intention of giving it to the homeless and refers to himself as a "Modern-day Robin Hood," Spoke to the judge for almost an hour during sentencing. Source 3

Even though this guy robbed a bank in Utah to help the homeless he is still not going to get away with this, like you said Sleuth, stealing is stealing. And he will have to pay the price for that as well. This man should have used his own money or borrow some if he is able and not steal them.

I wonder if this man has some sort of mental problem because risking his life like that it is just not thinking straight. He could have raised funds to help the homeless, etc instead of robbing a bank.
