Gunmen Hijack Car With Baby Inside
I was so shocked when I read the news! I'm glad the baby and the little boy are fine and safe but come on people, at this time and age you cannot leave your children inside your vehicle while you're unpacking groceries, anything can happen!
MASKED men armed with a gun drove away in a stolen sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Chaguanas yesterday with a five-month-old baby girl strapped into a car seat in the rear of the vehicle.
Little Caeli Teelucksingh was found an hour later, still in her seat, after the robbers abandoned the vehicle. Her four-year-old brother, Jaden, who was also in the back seat, jumped out before they drove away.
The incident occurred outside the family's Paria Avenue, Lange Park, Chaguanas, home shortly after 8 a.m.
The child's parents, Pooran and Crystal Teelucksingh, were off-loading groceries from their Suzuki Grand Vitara when the men entered the compound and took the vehicle.
The couple are fire fighters. Crystal, 28, is on maternity leave.
Her mother, Cheryl Marcano, said she was inside the house, when her daughter knocked for her to open the door.
"Pooran had to go to work, so they went to the grocery. When they returned, Crystal came out the van to open the front gate. The children were in the back seat. Her husband came out and handed her a bag. He turned around and saw the van driving off. Jaden jumped out the van, but the baby was inside," she said.
Marcano said a passerby who witnessed the incident said one of the men was armed with a firearm. The witness said one man wore a ski mask, while the other covered his face with a bandana.
Pooran Teelucksingh got into his wife's car, which was parked in the garage, and tried to follow the vehicle, Marcano said.
"By that time, he had contacted the police and they responded really fast," she said.
