While his method of assisted suicide seems rather barbaric, I will take the morally obscure road and irritate people by saying that they are within their rights as humans to take their own life. His mother helping him, I have no problem with. Having the woman who brought you into this world help you leave on your terms is a rather interesting thought, and he was dying of an indisputable degenerative disease. If the disease ran its normal course it would kill him slowly and painfully.
Konq, while I somewhat understand where you are coming from, I can't condone suicide, and I can't say that humans have the right to take their own lives. While the disease would have been painful, we must leave these things to God, and use what modern medicine has provided us to relieve the pain. As for convicting the mother, I was glad they chose not to, because like I said earlier, it is understandable why she did what she did.
