Prophet Muhammad - Page 2

To me, these actions show just what I have been saying for a long time - that there is a lot of danger in the attitudes of Muslim cultures. I hope that Europe will finally see just what they have encouraged in their midst.

I can't figure out what will appease these people, anyway. Apologies? Public executions of the cartoonists? Blowing up the newspaper offices?

The thing is, Muslim newspapers caricature (not in pictures, but in words) and insult other religions on a regular basis.

QUOTE (Malexander)
I just saw a breaking news flash on CNN that said the Danish Embassy in Damascus, Syria was set on fire

I saw this on TV just a few minutes ago and it really looked deplorable.

...what I have been saying for a long time

We know you have been saying it for a long time, but I believe the element to consider is that this what these people know as the way to be heard and the way to react. I really doubt anyone would take on a Muslim man on a diplomatic level if he came calmly and indicated his displeasure about a revered being such as the Prophet Muhammad, but they will take him on when he is aggressive, makes treats or burns buildings as in this case. Now, I am not justifying what they have done, but I am saying that these people are being encouraged to react in this way by their own leaders, religious leaders in fact.

Just in case anyone is interested, here is a link to lots of photos of what is happening concerning these comics. At the bottom of the post is a group of links to the actual comics.

I will agree that the religious leaders exploit the situation. But that should say even more about the whole situation, in that the Muslim people are so easily exploited! The biggest problem that I see is that so many in the West are perfectly willing to enable this situation, and bow down to the demands of these clerics, in order to keep "peace" that never materializes.

Do you realize that all of this is a direct attack against the freedom of speech? The Muslim clerics (and rioters) are demanding that the entire world submit to their ideas concerning what is and isn't acceptable speech. They demand that we all censor ourselves.

This has been going on for a long time. One example that has led up to this is the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) attempts to get Dr. Laura's show cancelled because she talked about abuses in Islamic societies.

None of this is surprising. It is only surprising that it has taken so long for Europe to do something to bring out the behavior.

I know it is, however the way I see it is simply this... if you are going to do something that offends someone else and at the same time want to do business with them then you are wasting your time. Basically, if you want to make Muslims happy and use their oil then you will need to kill the idea of drawing faces of the Prophet Muhammad. If you think, freedom of speech is more important then just say, "Look, we cannot see eye to eye on this, so you go your way, and we will go ours". However the Western world and some of Europe knowing that most Muslims will not bend like Christians do because most are not as devotee (but that is another story), still choose to operate in their country and do business with them - so that is what you get - a strong, defiant, no compromise situation in which they demand respect for their beloved prophet.

I understand the rage of these muslims, but this is absolutely ridiculous! You cannot justify harming people just because they drew a comic that was insulting to your faith. In the states, satire about Christianity and the LDS church and even the Islamic faith is not uncommon, but thats why we have freedom of speech. In fact, there have been no rights in the states regarding this issue. The fact is becoming clear that muslims over sees as a general populace believe that violence is indeed an acceptable reaction to a perceived wrong. The response of violence is acceptable when in response to something that is a perceived threat, but this is not. This incident is violence towards an insult, something that doesn't hurt anyone, but that insults the beliefs of another country. Problem is, the satire was brought on by their violence towards other cultures in the first place. Don't they realize that they aren't protesting the satirical comic, they are actualizing it. The main comic has a picture of Mohammed with a turban in the shape of a bomb on his head, with a fuse on the top. It is funny, its showing the use of violence as a general response of muslims in the middle east. By rioting, they are insuring that this comical satire is indeed a corrected assessment of their faith. If they do not want Mohammed made fun of, then perhaps they shouldn't behave in a fashion that creates the belief that faith Mohammed started is indeed wholly violent in nature.

So, are you saying that the US and Europe should tell their citizens that they are not allowed to do these things? Don't the Muslims have some responsibility to accept the concept that people can speak what they think? Don't their governments have some responsibility to reign in the violence? In the US, when demonstrations like those get violent, people go to jail. When people make direct threats, they are watched and possibly prosecuted.

If the Muslim world wants the dollars and euros, shouldn't THEY bend a little bit? Heck, Europe, even more than the US, already acts as dhimmis, that is, people who are not Muslim, but are submissive to Islamic ideas. Dhimmis pay the taxes to the Muslims, wear special clothes to distinguish them from Muslims, cannot testify against Muslims in court or investigation, and are absolutely forbidden to defend themselves against Muslims in any way. Since so many Muslims consider all of the West to be inferior, to be submissive (since we have proven that we are), it angers them when we stand up to their attitudes.

At least in my opinion.

QUOTE (Nighthawk)
So, are you saying that the US and Europe should tell their citizens that they are not allowed to do these things?

What I said before is predicated on an if... here is what I said before...

QUOTE (JB@Trinidad)
if you are going to do something that offends someone else and at the same time want to do business with them then you are wasting your time.

Now I am going to use an example, but I do not want to cause offense to be taken, it is merely an example to explain my perspective... basically, here is a scenario: let us say you are interested in mining gold in land owned by wolves, you cannot remove the wolves, so you choose to make an exchange with them: do not harm us and we will take your gold and give you fresh red meat for it. The wolves agree, but insist that you maintain certain standards that do not 'defile' their ground. You want the gold badly so you say "yes, yes" and start to walk on their turf making a trade. Now here is my point... at some point or the other you are on their turf, they can turn on you at anytime, if you do not like it - then leave - you can try to change the thinking of the wolf, try to get them to change to be more understanding like a lamb, but that is not going to happen, you cannot change the ingrained natural instinct of the wolf.... so what you do? This leads me to my earlier statement:

QUOTE (JB@Trinidad)
if you are going to do something that offends someone else and at the same time want to do business with them then you are wasting your time.

So my point is... you know that extreme Muslims react a certain way to these things - it is not going to change, I believe that is my main point of emphasis - the US / Europe are expecting a change, expecting the Muslim world to accept their way - such as making caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, but it is not going to happen, so rather than be surprised by your burning embassies just have nothing to do with that country for which you cannot conduct business. Move out! Then maybe the wolf will miss the red meat and decide if certain things can be considered acceptable.
