I saw that 'Crash' did get nominated for Best Picture today when the Oscar nominations were announced. I have to admit I didn't know about this movie until I read the article in this discussion. It seems to have a well-seasoned cast, and based on previous SAG winners and how they did at the Oscars, it's really got a fighting chance.

I finally got the chance to see this movie and can see why it received all the acclaim that it did. It interlocks different people who are all involved in racisms of some sort, whether they are the aggressors or the victims. The movie takes place in the US and tackles some very real issues affecting our society today. I recommend it to anyone and everyone. 2

I saw this yesterday. It does tackle racial issues, but the underlying thing was in my opinion to show that in the end of the day we are all the same: all struggling, all making ourselves unhappy because of an obsession with material things, and all guilty at some point of 'adding' to the problem by making assumptions. There is lots of room here for more of the movie as it does not show what the 'cure' is really....

Now the acting was superb, but I do have to take a step back with the amount of unnecessary profanity. I would have rated the movie higher were it not for that and the brief nude scene - another unnecessary.

While I understand your concerns about the level of profanity in the movie, JB, I felt it was an accurate depiction of the characters and situations they were in. I lived in a rather large city in the US (not L.A) and could say that there were times when the type of profanity depicted in Crash was a reality for me. The nudity I totally agree with; it did not even lend to the story at all.

The story itself did much to show why racial stereo types even exist. I really saw how one person can make or break someones stereo type about certain people. Makes me really consider how much impact I can have on someone just by meeting them, consider how much good or damage I can cause to someones future beliefs about me or my race/culture.
