Lip-synching

Lip-synching

After an infamous tiff between Elton John and Madonna over lip-synching, Britain's Musicians' Union has called on performers to come clean -- audiences should be told if they are miming rather than singing. The union is urging promoters, producers and artists to back its campaign for lip-synching to be clearly labeled during TV shows, in pop arenas and on stage.

I completely agree with this. People pay money to see their favorite singers and groups perform. If they wanted to listen to lip-synched music, they can buy the CD's and Videos. I also thought this was an appropriate statement in the article:

There is an element here that should not be over looked. Suppose it is the day of your concert and you have lost your voice, gotten the cold, etc. What do you do? Do you cancel the show altogether or do you try to fake it by using the lip sync technique? Keep in mind that it is not that easy to just cancel a concert. Also, it is not like you will announce it before either...

spock.gif "Ladies and gentleman, Madonna, has a terrible sore throat today and so will now perform her entire album while lip synching."

I think most people would be more understanding if they knew the truth than being deceived by slight of mouth. Many people have canceled concerts for similar reasons so it is definitely not out of the question.

So you are saying that you would actually make an announcement before the concert or cancel altogether and refund everyone? I am sure some fans would still rather be there and see her / him than have to waste a day that was already planned for the concert.

You should cancel the show. You owe it to your fans to be honest. These performers are human after all, and susceptible to sickness and adversity just like anyone else. I know personally, as a fan, that I would be more understanding if the show was cancelled, than if the performer tried to lip synch the entire show just for the sake of not cancelling.

Totally agree with the posts above. There's no way I would pay money to go to a concert for my favorite artist to find out he was lip-syncing!
