with his attempt to fly around the world solo without refueling, despite a
serious problem earlier in the day with the plane's fuel system.

This is sooooo going to end bad! He has had problems with the fuel system for a while but will not put it off. I would think in a situation like this in which you are trying to fly around the world without refueling, that the fuel system would need to be working perfectly. It would need to be as efficient as possible. Even if he doesn't explode or crash, he still may have problems because of his fuel being spent to quickly. This is a foolish attitude he has, and it may cost him. I will be interested to see how this turns out.
Actually, it turned out well. He landed today in Kansas, at the field where he launched his attempt.
