Have you ever heard of Maglev?
This technology has been experimented with for years and has slowly over the past few years started to introduce it's benefits to the general population. Maglev technology can be found most commonly in passenger carry trains. Now I have even seen an article that mentioned Tokyo is getting an elevator that is also maglev technology.
Maglev simply put is Magnetic Levitation. How large would an electromagnet need to be to repel with enough force to raise a steel constructed train full of people off of the track? There are a few different technologies that produce this. You can read about each at the following links.

I have been seeing this publicized for years and the technology, Magnetic Levitation that is, has been around for quite awhile. It seems like only economic secure countries have it or should I say 'more powerful nations'. You can see how it works here: https://www.howstuffworks.com/maglev-train.htm the main feature I like is the tremendous speeds it goes at - although that makes ripe for a disaster should an accident happen.
