Understanding Dungeons & Dragons Attack of Opportunity

I currently am working my own [RPG]. I want to play it with my friends at my house every week. It's based on Dungeons & Dragons v3.5e. But I realize that it's not easy especially my friends don't understand English. So I have to translate the rules into Bahasa Indonesia.

In addition, I don't understand some rules such as Attack of Opportunity, skills, etc. I suppose to simplify the rules or I will be overwhelmed. Unfortunately, I don't know which rules.

Opportunity Attack Dragons and Dungeons Understanding

Attacks of Opportunity are rather simple. Depending on size category and weapon choice, a creature, let's say an Elf, has a Threat range (5 feet for Medium creature with a non-reach weapon). They Threaten the 8 squares around them.

When an enemy moves into a threatened square there is no issue.

However, when an enemy attempts to move out of a threatened square, the Elf standing next to them can take a single, free attack, out of his turn. This only occurs once before the Elf's next turn, then he can make another one after it. (Combat Reflexes feat allows more than one.)

This gives the effect that fighters have to "Stick" Like glue, otherwise get attacked. Also a fighter can move towards an archer or someone running away to "Stick" To them.

But, not only moving provokes Attacks of Opportunity. If the Elf stands next to and threatens an archer trying to shoot, or a sorcerer casting a spell (Not defensively), or many other things listed on the table in Actions in Combat, he can attack the enemy. (For the sorcerer, he now needs to Concentrate against the damage).

All of the attacks occur BEFORE the attempted action, so if an enemy falls unconscious from the attack, no action.

Now, Skills are a bit harder. I would recommend going for 2 or 3 sessions without using skills. When a character wants to climb or swim, check the skill list to see it is a Strength based skill, then give him a Strength check instead.

Trying to pick a lock? Check what ability Pick Lock uses and roll a 17 and add your +2 Dexterity, for 19 total. Looking out for enemies? Check that Spot is Wisdom based, roll only a 3 and add your +0 from Wisdom of 11. No you do not notice the bandit.

If you do this, remember to make checks easier by about 3 points. Then, when you all understand, you can add skill ranks for all your players and do the checks as normal.

This is a good skill to have but how does one keep track of that in a play by post environent where you can't see the amount of feet away an enemy is in front or to the side, etc.

Opportunity Attack Dragons and Dungeons Understanding

In a Play By Post environment it will be the responsibility of the GM / Dungeon Master to tell you if you can do it or not unless they upload a map with the squares and the position of your characters.
