What Qualifies As A Significant World Record?
Since anything can be considered a World Record just by adding variations to it, how do we know when to accept it or not?
Significance is in the eye of the person beholding the record. If someone bakes for a living, then baking the world largest cookie may be considered significant by that person. I personally consider that insignificant. But if someone is good at something or likes something that any world record regarding it could be significant. On the same note, any achievement could in theory be considered insignificant by someone else.
As a whole, I don't consider a world record significant unless it has a real impact in the area of the record. The world record for a race being broken is significant because running is a sport in which the entire world will compete in and thus its records being broken impact everyone. So significance to me is measured in impact.
